The Federal Government has recognised the difficulty people living in the regions experience when trying to access psychiatric care. Following the decision to remove Medicare Item Number 288 at very short notice on 1 January 2022, a similar item number has been introduced from 1 November 2022. This makes it again financially viable to bulk bill regional patients. Listed in the table are the  appointment types with the previous upfront fees, Medicare rebate and resulting gap fee.
